Europe is the perfect place to enjoy both a weekend break, and a longer holiday. There are so many different areas that are right on our doorstep, and often get overlooked. You can often get really cheap flights to destinations in Europe, and, as many of them are within driving distance, which means they are excellent destinations for those who may not be as keen on travelling. Here are just ten destinations that you can visit in Europe.

1) Prague, Czech Republic


Prague is becoming an incredibly popular destination to visit and it has been voted no. 5 in the world in the Travellers’ Choice Destination Awards. It is an excellent location if you are looking for a historic city where you can fully immerse yourself in culture. You can sample the local life, as well as visit historic attractions, such as the beautiful Prazsky Hrad (Prague Castle). There is always something to do during the day, making it the perfect location for a weekend break. 

2) Florence, Italy


Florence is one of the most beautiful areas of Italy. It is steeped in history, and you could easily spend your holiday here. It is perfect if you are looking for a relaxing break, which is full of sunshine. It is worthwhile during your stay that you take the time to visit the statue of Michelangelo’s David. The sights and beauty of the city is truly captivating, and you can easily lose hours just walking around this city. 

3) London, England


London is right on our doorstep, and is an excellent place to go to for a weekend. It is easy to get caught up in the fast pace of life in the capital city of England. There is so much to see and do in this spectacular city that you will never be left with a spare moment. If you are looking for a relaxing break, London might not be the best option, but if you are looking for a great city break, it is perfect. Whilst you are there, why not visit the famous West End, and indulge in a stage show production. It really is the perfect way to end your trip.

Amsterdam is becoming incredibly popular in recent years, and the number of tourists visiting this city has increased. It is the perfect place to take yourself off for a weekend. One of the best ways to explore this Dutch city is to take a water-borne tour on one of the 165 canals that Amsterdam has retained. It is a picturesque and relaxing way to see the area. The World War II Experience is also a fantastic way of learning and understanding how the Netherlands were affected during this time. Of course, in the evenings, you can sample the night life that Amsterdam is famous for. 

7) Barcelona, Spain


Barcelona is perfect if you are looking for a spot of sunshine during the colder months. It is an absolutely beautiful city, and there is so much to do. You can easily explore the area on foot. Although it is a fairly large city, it is perfect to discover on foot, allowing you to get lost in the shops and history of the place. You can sample the local tapas, before taking a dip in the Mediterranean and relaxing on the beautiful white sand beach. 

8) Berlin, Germany


Berlin is a wonderful city, and perfect if you are looking for somewhere to travel to that you can really get into and explore. Of course, during your visit, it is well worth going to see the remains of the Berlin Wall, and well as exploring the picturesque forest during your stay. Taking a selfie in Berlin’s Photoautomaten, which produces four black and white photos of you and your friends is somewhat obligatory, and is a perfect momentum that you can take away from your trip.

Rome is an incredibly historic, and romantic place to visit, and is perfect for a long weekend getaway for you and your partner. It has long been the destination of numerous proposals, which indicates just how beautiful this city is. As you would expect, it is full of Roman antiques and ruins, and you can easily explore these for hours. It is also home to the Sistine Chapel and Vatican City, and there are numerous museums that are dedicated to this which are well worth a visit. 

10) Krakow, Poland


Krakow in Poland is the perfect getaway for you and your friends. You can indulge in the bars and clubs by night, before seeing the historic side of the city during the day. Just over 50 kilometres west of the city of Krakow lies Auschwitz which has been preserved into a museum. You should allow yourself a good few hours for the trip; however it is well worth while visiting during your stay. Afterwards, you can sample some truly polish delights at numerous bistros and restaurants that you will discover along the way.
