5 Most Expensive Handbags In The World

What is the most amount of money that you have ever spent on a handbag? The vital fashion items for women come in all shapes, styles, sizes and colours, some more practical than others.

But, for most of us, spending a few hundred dollars on a handbag would be a treat. Whilst we might window shop longingly at the bags that cost thousands, we could never actually imagine buying them. So, just how expensive is the most expensive handbag? Read on to find out. Here are just five of the most expensive handbags in the whole world.

5) The Urban Satchel, Louis Vuitton

The Urban Satchel by Louis Vuitton certainly raised a few eyebrows when it was first debuted. The one of a kind bag is crafted from the finest Italian leather, and follows their Tribute Patchwork Bag, which sold for $42,000. The tribute bag featured several Louis Vuitton handbags stitched onto one bag, and only 20 of them were ever made, with Beyoncé being one lucky owner. There are even fewer of the Urban Satchel bags, as only one has been made. It was originally handmade as a spoof design, but has got a hefty price tag of $150,000, and it is reported that both Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, Anna Wintour, and Victoria Beckham have all started a bidding war for it.

So, what makes this Louis Vuitton bag so special? Well, in actual fact, no one is really quite sure, and it has actually been deeply criticised by fashionistas. It has been likened to a ‘pile of rubbish’, and to be honest, it is easy to see why. The bag, literally is rubbish, which has been composed of derelict items, such as water bottles, cigarette packets, and chewing gum wrappers just to name a few items.

The lucky owner of this one of a kind hand-crafted leather satchel will be able to flaunt the carefully chosen ‘urban charms’ with pride, boasting their impeccable style and lavish taste that most of the world can only dream about.

Ashley Olson signed a multimillion dollar endorsement deal, which allowed her to advertise this satchel in Vogue, and although she has been pictured with the bag, there is no guarantee that she is the proud owner of it. Whether you love or hate this bag, there is no denying that it makes a statement, and with the unimaginable price tag that comes with it, it is hard to believe that it has been constructed from items that are better placed in the tip than a woman’s closet!

4) Diamond Forever Classic Bag, Chanel

The Diamond Forever Classic Bag is everything you would expect from a luxurious classic Chanel bag. It has been named as one of the most expensive handbags in the world, but there is no denying that it is a piece of beauty.

The limited edition handbag has been crafted from the highest quality rich looking, matte finish farmed and treated alligator skin, adorned with 334 diamonds, making up 3.56 carats in total. If this is not enough extravagance, the hardware frame is made up from 18 carat white gold, complete with a long, chained shoulder strap, which again has been crafted from 18 carat white gold.

The bag does not come without a staggering price tag of $261,000, and you will have to be quick if you would like one, as there are only 13. This is like owner a real Picasso. 5 of these bags are already sold to lucky people in the United States.

With a bag this precious, it does not need to be confirmed that it is much more of a collector’s item, as opposed to a bag that you would use on a daily basis. For the lay person, it might be hard to understand why anyone would spent this amount of money on something that they will rarely (if at all) use. You have to look at pieces like this, in comparison to a piece of art, or a classic car – they are to be admired by those who see it, and to get enjoyment from. The limited availability and high demand for items like the Diamond Forever Classic Chanel bag are what make it so valuable.

3) Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Diamond Birkin, Hermesw

The Birkin bag is the holy grail of high end handbags. It is the type of bag that every woman dreams about, but very few have the pleasure of owning. With prices starting in their thousands, the Birkin bags do not come cheap, so when you combine this with a limited edition, diamond encrusted design, it is no wonder that the price tag is over $300,000.

The exclusive Birkin has been described as an exceptional matte, white Himalaya Niloticus crocodile diamond Birkin, which features 18 carat gold buckles and strap loops, which have been encrusted with no less than 205 diamonds.

The Diamond Birkin was crafted by Hermes in 2014, and has since sold at auctions for even more than the price above, and has actually become the highest priced bag ever sold at an auction. Prior to this, the previous most expensive bag sold at an auction was…wait for it…another Birkin!

So, here is what you will get for a cool $300,168; the hand crafted, super high quality bag, a clochette, a lock, keys for said lock, a small dust bag, a regular dust bag, a leather pouch, and a gift box complete with ribbon.

2) Birkin By Japanese Designer Ginza Tanaka, Hermes

It is probably no surprise that second on our list is another Hermes Birkin bag; this time, they collaborated with iconic Japanese designer Ginza Tanaka, and the results are simply breath-taking. Although, with a price tag of nearly $2million it is a bag that most can merely admire in pictures.

The impressive bag has been fashioned from precious metal, platinum, and has a number of features that are removable, and can be transformed into elegant and timeless items of jewellery. The bag has 2,000 diamonds in its outer shell, including a huge, 8-carat pear shaped diamond, which is adorned on the front of this beautiful bag.

The strap, which is of course covered in diamonds, can be removed and worn as either a bracelet or a necklace and the front statement diamonds, which includes the large pear shaped one, can be removed and worn separately as a broach.

The price tag, whilst most people do not even spend this amount of money on their homes, simply reflects the materials that have been used. Platinum and diamonds are two very expensive materials by themselves, so when combined make a pricey amalgamation!

1) 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, House Of Mouawad

You might want to sit down when you see the price of this one! The 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, carefully and lovingly constructed by the designers of House of Mouawad is officially certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive handbag in the whole world, exceeding $3million.

The bag was displayed during the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, and features 56 pink diamonds, 105 yellow diamonds, and 4,356 colourless diamonds totalling 381.92 carats, all set in a 18 carat gold setting.

The heart shaped bag has been crafted by ten skilled artisans and took a total of 8,800 hours to create, and was the second record-breaking attempt from the House of Mouawad. The first was the ‘Very Sexy Fantasy Bra’, whereby they collaborated with Victoria’s Secret and developed the most expensive bra in the world, valued at $11million; making the heart shaped bag seem like a bargain!

The bag has incredible attention to detail, and the workmanship that has gone into crafting something this beautiful is simply magnificent. Unsurprisingly, it is a one of a kind piece, belonging to a brand that counts royalty, and Hollywood celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Jenifer Lopez, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey among its clientele.
